Pedestrian killed in Central Islip crash, police say

A pedestrian in Central Islip died after a motorist struck him just after he stepped off a curb Monday morning, Suffolk police said.

The victim, Victor Fuentes, 32, of Central Islip, was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The crash occurred about 11:30 a.m. at East Suffolk Avenue and Pineville Road, police said.

The 89-year-old driver, who stayed at the scene, told police that he did not see Fuentes.

He was not charged and the investigation continues, police said.
