A small plane made an emergency landing at Heckscher State Park in East Islip just before 4 p.m. Sunday, state park police said.

No one was injured either on the plane or on the ground, police said.

The 1977 Cessna was being piloted by David J. Jensen, along with a student pilot, state park police said in a release. The plane landed at Field 9 in the state park on a runway used by model airplanes, police said.

"The two had been en route to Brookhaven, N.Y., from North Carolina when the plane developed engine trouble and landed in the park," the release said.

Det. Sgt. Thomas Duignan of the state park police said the plane is in the process of being dismantled, as planes are not permitted to take off from the park.

The incident is under investigation, Duignan said.
