A robber who wore a Yankees cap managed to elude authorities after he fled a TD Bank branch Monday in Hampton Bays, but he was caught on surveillance video, police said. Now, Southampton Town police are hoping the public can help catch him.

The robbery occurred about 4:40 p.m. at the TD Bank branch on West Montauk Highway, police said. Police said they were alerted by a panic alarm at the bank and later by a teller's 911 call.

However, a search that included a State Police K-9 unit failed to find the suspect.

Police said the suspect is 6-foot-1, 25 to 35 years old, has a stocky build and a goatee. He was wearing a short-sleeved red T-shirt, dark shorts, sunglasses and a gray Yankees baseball cap with a red "NY" logo.

It was not clear how much money was taken.

Police ask anyone with information about the robbery to call detectives at 631-702-2230, or the Crime Hotline at 631-728-3454. Tipsters can also email police at crimetips@southamptontownny.gov, police said.
