Southold cops: 5 rescued after boat takes on water in Long Island Sound off Cutchogue

Five people had to be rescued Thursday night after their boat began taking on water in the Long Island Sound off Cutchogue, Southold police said.

The incident occurred about three-quarters of a mile off Duck Pond Point.

Police said Southold Bay Constable John Kirincic, along with town police officers William Brewer and John Crosser, responded to a call of a boat taking on water just before 8:15 p.m.

A Sea Tow vessel also responded and towed the boat to Mattituck Inlet. The size and manufacturer of the boat was not immediately known.

Police said none of the five rescued -- Roque Quintanilla, 34, of Centereach, and Erick Hernandez, 21, Rudy Hernandez, 22, Celio Orteg, 35, and, Osmond Hernandez, 28, all of Port Jefferson -- were injured. No medical attention was required.
