Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy, sounding very much like a gubernatorial wannabe, said he is still mulling whether to run for statewide office next year.
"It's a job that definitely intrigues me and I think I have the skill set for it," said Levy. In an interview he said he's also eyeing other statewide offices. "I wouldn't say it's likely, but I wouldn't say it's unlikely," he said. "In this business timing is everything."
These are Levy's first comments on the subject since his chief Long Island rival, Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi, lost re-election. Levy downplayed the significance, saying his candidacy "would never be based on who the other people are." Levy said he plans exploratory meetings in coming weeks and a decision within two months. He declined to rate his chances, but said, "I've been underrated many times before."
