A flood advisory was issued for Suffolk County Saturday night because of heavy rain moving into the area, the National Weather Service said.

The flood advisory was extended until 10:45 p.m., the weather service said.

The system was predicted to produce a half-inch of rain an hour. The heavy rain in combination with melting snow and clogged drainages would cause flooding, the weather service said.

The weather service warned drivers not to go into areas where water covers the road, saying most flood deaths happen in cars. Drivers should be especially cautious at night, the agency said.
