Suffolk cop revives woman who overdosed
A Suffolk police officer used an intranasal medication Tuesday night to revive a woman who had apparently overdosed on drugs, police said.
Officer Michael Alfieri was on patrol on Squaw Lane in Mastic when he was flagged down by a man, notifying him that his wife was unresponsive and not breathing, police said. Alfieri rushed to the scene and revived the woman by administering Narcan, officers said.
The 30-year-old woman was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue. County police recently began participating in a New York State Department of Health pilot program involving the use of intranasal Narcan.
Alfieri on Aug. 1 revived a Mastic Beach man who overdosed on heroin using the intranasal medication -- the first person saved under a Suffolk police pilot program that equips officers with the antidote, police said.
