A woman thinking of jumping to her death was saved Friday when a Suffolk County highway police officer held onto her while talking her off an LIRR overpass in Ronkonkoma, police said.
A bystander notified an officer on patrol, James Spadaro, about a suicidal woman on the Ronkonkoma Avenue train trestle about 1:25 p.m., police said.
Spadaro walked slowly to the woman and tried to persuade her to walk off the bridge, police said.
He got close enough to hold on to her and kept talking until Fourth Precinct and MTA officers arrived to assist getting her off the overpass, police said.
The woman was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for an evaluation, police said.
