Suffolk County police are investigating two fatal single-vehicle accidents that occurred early Sunday -- one in Brookhaven and the other in Port Jefferson Station.

Police said an unidentified man died in the Brookhaven accident at Horseblock Road and Montauk Highway at about 4:30 a.m.

The man was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban south on Horseblock Road when his vehicle struck a tree on Montauk Highway and burst into flames, according to police.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and his vehicle was impounded for a safety check, police said.

Anyone with information on the accident can call Suffolk County Fifth Squad detectives at 631-854-8552.

The Port Jefferson Station accident, which happened about 4:20 a.m. at Route 112 and Washington Avenue, involved a vehicle found overturned next to a trash bin.

Police said an unidentified man was driving a 2004 Ford Explorer southbound on Route 112 when the vehicle crossed into the northbound lane, then left the roadway and overturned in a wooded area.

That driver also was pronounced dead at the scene and the vehicle impounded for a safety check.

Detectives ask anyone who might have witnessed the crash to call police at 631-854-8652.
