A repaving project means partial closures and lane shifts for a stretch of Sunrise Highway from Water Mill to Tuckahoe starting Friday night, a state agency said.
There will be construction during overnight hours, 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday. The work is expected to take about two weeks, weather permitting, the state Department of Transportation said.
The repair work covers Sunrise Highway from Route 39, Tuckahoe Road, in the hamlet of Tuckahoe east to Fairbanks Court in Water Mill.
In addition to the partial closures and shifts, when it is deemed unsafe to accommodate two lanes of traffic, alternating direction traffic will be in place, the agency said. This means traffic in one direction will be halted for a period, while traffic from the other direction is allowed to proceed.
No daytime lane closures are anticipated, but there is off-road construction between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
