A sport utility vehicle fell into a sinkhole that opened up on a Manorville roadway flooded after a pickup truck hit a fire hydrant Thursday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

No one was injured, but the flooding has shut down Moriches-Middle Island Road by Weeks Avenue, police said.

It was not clear what caused the pickup truck driver to hit the hydrant just before 12:15 p.m., but the flooding weakened Moriches-Middle Island Road, causing the surface to collapse, police said.

A photo from the scene shows the entire front of the SUV stuck in it, with the water level partway up the windshield.
