Swastika graffiti found in college bathroom in Selden

Bias-laden graffiti, consisting of swastikas, was found Thursday in a bathroom on the campus of Suffolk County Community College in Selden, a school official said.

SCCC vice president Mary Lou Araneo said Bias Crime Unit officers were investigating the incident -- and it's not the first time swastikas have been found.

"There have been a few incidents in this particular building," Araneo said.

Suffolk police could not immediately confirm the latest incident.

Araneo said such graffiti has appeared over the course of months, but she could not immediately provide a definitive number of incidents. She said school officials were working closely with police.

The graffiti has appeared in the bathroom in the Riverhead Building which houses tech classrooms, including TV and radio broadcast studios.

"We are working, certainly, with law enforcement to put an end to this and hope that takes place as soon as possible," Araneo said. "I think any time you find something like this it's a concern . . . There's no tolerance for this."
