Two men police said were arrested in the robbery of a gas station in Coram Saturday night and in an attempted robbery of another about 15 minutes earlier are scheduled for arraignment Sunday.
Tony Taddonio 27, of 5 Whitman Dr., Medford, and Michael Iovino 27, of 2449 Union Ave., Apt. 28A, Islip, were charged with robbery and attempted robbery.
Suffolk County police said Taddonio entered the Sunoco Gas Station located at 3423 Route 112 about 6 p.m. armed with what appeared to be a handgun and attempted to hold up the clerk. The clerk grabbed a stick he kept behind the counter, and Taddonio fled without any proceeds to a 2003 Acura being driven by Iovino.
About 15 minutes later Taddonio entered the Mobil gas station, located at 372 Middle Country Rd., also in Coram, and held up the clerk fleeing with about $350, police said.
Iovino and Taddonio fled southbound on Route 112 but were stopped by Sixth Precinct Patrolman Francesco Saracino who was searching the area as part of the attempted robbery investigation.
Saracino arrested the suspects about 6:50 p.m. Cash and a BB gun were recovered.
Taddonio and Iovino were being held at the Sixth Precinct and are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip.
