Service on the Montauk line of the Long Island Rail Road was delayed Sunday evening after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train, a railroad spokeswoman said.
The pedestrian was hit at about 7:25 p.m. at Dunton Avenue, between Patchogue and Bellport, by the 5:35 p.m. train originating in Montauk, LIRR spokeswoman Marjorie Anders said. It was scheduled to arrive at Jamaica by 8:10 p.m.
The victim's identity was not released. It was unclear why the pedestrian was on the track.
The train continued an hour and 45 minutes late.
Buses accommodated passengers traveling both east and west, Anders said, citing the interruption caused by a subsequent investigation.
