Two firefighters suffered minor injuries and a family’s dog died Wednesday morning when a home in Shirley caught on fire, officials said.

Suffolk County police said a call came in at about 7:40 a.m. that the house on West End Avenue was in flames.

The Ridge Fire Department responded to the blaze and extinguished the flames. Photos from the scene show smoke pouring from the front door and charring on the siding.

The Suffolk police arson squad has not yet determined a cause, though they do not believe the fire was criminal in nature, a police spokeswoman said.

The family that lived inside the home got out safely, though their dog died inside, fire officials said.

A fire official said two firefighters were hurt. He said their injuries were minor but he did not have details.
