A gun-toting man wearing a Darth Vader mask and cape robbed a Setauket bank Thursday, police said.

The man fled after the robbery of the Chase bank at 4080 Rte. 347, Suffolk police said.

He entered the bank at 11:30 a.m., displayed a gun and demanded cash, police said.

"The teller complied with the robber's demands and gave him money from the drawer," police said.

They said the robber wore the mask of Darth Vader, the antagonist in the "Star Wars" saga. He fled east through the parking lot.

Detectives are investigating.

"It's definitely unusual to wear a disguise like that to rob a bank," Det. Sgt. William Lamb said.

The bank was still counting how much money was taken, police said.

Anyone with information about the robbery is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
