A West Babylon man drove into oncoming traffic on the Sunrise Highway while intoxicated early Sunday, Suffolk County police said.

Charles Falco, 50, was driving a gray 2009 Pontiac G6 east in the westbound lanes west of Connetquot Avenue in Islip Terrace at 12:15 a.m. when he was spotted by Suffolk County Highway Patrol Officer Ricardo Pigatti, police said.

Pigatti followed Falco's vehicle for more than a mile before he was able to stop Falco near Oakdale-Bohemia Road in Oakdale.

Falco was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, second-degree reckless endangerment and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, in addition to two summonses for driving the wrong way and failure to comply.

He was scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
