A West Islip man was arrested Wednesday night on drug possession and traffic violations charges after his pickup was stopped for speeding and unlawfully changing lanes on the Southern State Parkway, State Police said.
Anthony Macario, 23, 136 Madison Ave., was speeding and changing lanes without using signals in a red Ford pickup truck in the eastbound lanes of the Southern State near Belmont Avenue, just after 11 p.m., police said.
While interviewing Macario, police said officers noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from the truck and a plastic bag on the floor of the vehicle.
The bag contained one bag of marijuana, two glass containers of marijuana, a pipe and a digital scale, police said. After a more detailed search, police said they also found two pills they identified as Xanax in an unmarked container.
Macario is charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and several vehicle and traffic violations, police said. He is scheduled to appear in court on March 18.
