Police: West Sayville man robbed Italian ices shop in Sayville

A West Sayville man was arrested Friday night, shortly after robbing a Ralph's Italian Ices in Sayville, Suffolk County police said.

Scott Tangel, 44, of Rollstone Avenue, entered the store on Main Street and demanded cash from the employee at the register after displaying a knife, police said.

After Tangel fled the scene with an undetermined amount of cash, detectives found him at the Sayville Long Island Rail Road station at about 10:20 p.m., police said. Tangel was positively identified by a witness and charged with first-degree robbery, police said.

Tangel is being held at the Fifth Precinct in Patchogue. He is scheduled for arraignment Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip.
