A Mastic man was killed when the motorcycle he was driving hit the back bumper of motorists who were slowing down due to traffic in Islip Terrace, Suffolk police said Tuesday.

Alexander Rivera, 41, was driving a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle westbound on Sunrise Highway, east of Saxon Avenue, “when he struck the back bumper of an SUV as motorists were slowing down to traffic at approximately 8:10 a.m.,” police said.

Rivera then hit the back of a tractor-trailer, lost control and fell off.

He was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead. The sport utility vehicle driver, Fatima Williams, 39, of Mastic and the driver of the tractor-trailer, Stanislaw Golynski, 62, of Rockaway Park, were not injured, police said.

That stretch of westbound Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore was closed, reopening after about five hours.

Third Squad detectives are investigating and ask anyone with information to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
