An 85-year-old Greenlawn man was injured when he crashed his car into a wooded area leaving the VA Hospital in East Northport on Wednesday, Suffolk County police said.

Police said William Mackenzie was in stable condition at Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was airlifted after the single-car crash.

Mackenzie was in his 2010 Ford Focus when police said he "failed to negotiate the left turn" onto Middleville Road when exiting the hospital at about 9:40 p.m. The car crashed into a wooded area and a dirt embankment, injuring Mackenzie, police said.

No charges were filed.

Police said the investigation is continuing.
