Woman fatally hit on Sunrise Hwy. in Lindenhurst

An unidentified young woman was hit and killed

An unidentified young woman was hit and killed about 9:30 p.m. Monday while crossing Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst. The accident happened at North Greene Avenue and Sunrise Highway. A young woman crossing Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst was struck by a car and killed Monday evening, Suffolk County police said.

The woman's identity has not been released.

Police said the accident occurred at 9:29 p.m. near the intersection of Greene Avenue.

Police said the woman was walking north and was struck by a 2006 Hyundai driven by Jesse McNamara, 18, of Lindenhurst.

Police said McNamara told them he never saw the woman.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Hyundai was impounded for a safety check.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
