Husband rescues wife, 66, from East Quogue pool, cops say

A 66-year-old woman was found floating unconscious in her backyard pool in East Quogue, Southampton Town police said Wednesday.

Southampton Police Lt. Susan Ralph identified the woman as Harriet Plaskow, but said no information was available about the woman’s condition.

Police said the incident happened shortly after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Plaskow’s house on Whitewood Court. Plaskow’s husband had been with her at the pool and was reading while his wife went in, Ralph said.

“She was walking in the shallow end and her husband was reading, and when he looked up he no longer saw her,” Ralph said. He then saw his wife at the bottom of the pool, got her out and called 911, Ralph added.

According to Southampton Town Police Sgt. James Cavanagh, the 911 operator gave directions for CPR and Plaskow had a heartbeat but her breathing was “distressed.”

Police said Plaskow was transported unconscious to Stony Brook University Hospital by police helicopter.
