A Bohemia woman was arrested Monday after Suffolk police said she stole money from collection boxes at a Sayville church last month.

Jennie Lecker, 36, of Nemeth Street, was arrested as she left St. Lawrence the Martyr Roman Catholic Church at about 4:15 p.m., police said.

Police launched an investigation after church officials noticed money missing from collection boxes at the end of May, police said.

Church officials installed surveillance cameras that captured video of a woman entering and exiting the building several times and notified police on Friday about the thefts, which appeared to have occurred between May 22 and May 28, police said.

Fifth Precinct Police Officer Lonny Krimsky spotted a woman who looked like the one in the video while he was at the church to investigate Monday, and arrested Lecker as she exited the church.

Lecker is charged with four counts of third-degree burglary and attempted petit larceny. She was to be held overnight at the Fifth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday.
