A worker fell down an elevator shaft at a Port Jefferson Village condo construction site Wednesday, Suffolk County police said.
The victim suffered a head injury and was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital after falling about 2 p.m. at the Liberty Avenue worksite, police said.
Sixth Precinct detectives remained at the scene late in the afternoon, police said.
A neighbor said the condo complex is called Liberty Meadows.
The 43-townhouse condo project is for residents ages 55 and older and is being built by developer James Tsunis and The Northwind Group. Tsunis and Northwind officials could not be immediately reached Wednesday.
