Two parking lots used by commuters at the Wyandanch Long Island Rail Road station will close at midnight Friday, Babylon Town officials said Monday.
The free lots, at Acorn and North 10th streets, and at Straight Path and North 10th Street, will close permanently to make way for development, said Jonathan Keyes, the town's director of downtown revitalization.
About 650 free parking lot and street spots will still be available at a newly opened commuter lot at Long Island Avenue and South 18th Street and smaller lots near the train tracks. Street parking remains available on Long Island Avenue.
An additional 920 garage spots will be available at the LIRR's Wyandanch parking facility, set to open Saturday, according to town officials. The monthly rate is $70.
Because of inaccurate information provided by the company hired to manage the garage, a previous version of this story incorrectly reported parking costs.
