Yaphank man charged in collision with police car

Suffolk police arrested a Yaphank man on charges of marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license after he crashed his vehicle into a police car in Coram.

Mitchell Alexander, 44, of Michelle Lane collided with the police car on Route 112 at the intersection with County Road 83 at about 9 p.m. Saturday while making an illegal U-turn, police said. The car was operated by Officer Richard Caiado of the Sixth Precinct, police said.

No one was injured in the crash, but both vehicles were damaged, police said.

Alexander was released and is scheduled to be arraigned at a later date, police said.
