Long Island's first Zombie Race, coming to Riverhead on May 5, 2013, is a 5k/15k mud run with an added obstacle: racers are chased through the course by human "zombies" who will try to steal "health" flags tucked into their clothing. Participants can choose to serve as either runners or zombies.

The May 5 Zombie Race in Riverhead isn't a traditional timed 5k/15k run -- the goal is to make it through the course with your three "health" flags still intact. Costumed zombies stationed around the course will chase, hide or otherwise attempt to ambush runners in between obstacles, as demonstrated by folks affiliated with Cousins Paintball in Medford, which is organizing the race.
