A Rocky Point woman was killed Saturday night while walking in the hamlet.

The victim was identified by Suffolk County police as Theresa Swedberg, 49. She was taken to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson, where she was pronounced dead.

Police said the accident occurred shortly before 6:15 p.m. when Garrett Schneider, 21, was driving a 2000 Chrysler Voyager on northbound Hallock Landing Road and struck Swedberg as she was walked into his lane.

Schneider was not injured. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation into the accident was continuing.
