Four Long Island budding engineers have won $10,000 college scholarships as part of a competition sponsored by Northrop Grumman.

High school students Brandon Li of Jericho High School, Matthew Miecnikowski of Half Hollow Hills High School East, Jonathan Nino of Hempstead High School and Joel Santisteban of Lawrence High School were selected out of 119 applicants. Kimberly Day, of West Shore Junior/Senior High School in Florida, was the fifth winner.

The scholarships were open to students who lived in areas in which the company's Aerospace Systems sector has major facilities, including Nassau and Suffolk.

Northrop Grumman said it will also work to place each student in a paid internship at local facilities.

Including such internships, the scholarships could be worth as much as $30,000.
