Thirty-two Hempstead firefighters were honored for their courage and dedication to protecting their communities last Thursday.

Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray presented the honorees with the town’s “Firematic” medal during a ceremony on Oct. 21. Each was honored for their distinguished service as members of the volunteer fire service community.

"Volunteer firefighters are indeed heroes in our communities and the Town of Hempstead is extremely grateful to each and every member of the local fire departments," Murray said in a press release. "It's a pleasure to have this opportunity to recognize Hempstead Town's bravest."
