$500G upgrade for N. Brentwood streets

A resolution to begin work on a $500,000 streetscape project for North Brentwood will be taken up at Tuesday night’s Islip Town board meeting.

The project, funded by state and federal grants, would improve Washington Avenue, Heyward Avenue and Clark Street. The roads run through the area’s business district.

Work would be done on the streets’ drainage systems, sidewalks and curbs, Supervisor Phil Nolan said. Workers would also install concrete curbing, brick pavers and work on paving issues, he said.

Funding for the project comes from the New York State Department of Transportation as well as the federal government’s funds for community development.

The town has awarded a contract for the work to Jadeco Construction Corp., and this resolution would authorize release of the funds.

If it is approved, Nolan said, work would begin within several months. Officials said they hope to complete the improvements in the fall.

“It’s a nice upgrade,” Nolan said. “It’s an improvement to safety.”
