A hairy commute from Hicksville

Standing snow was a challenge for car commuters

While Friday morning's snow totals didn't approach those of recent accumulations, the timing and thickness of the snow made for a rough commute in Hicksville.

Several inches of snow covered side roads, and on main thoroughfares like Old Country Road and Newbridge Road, the white stuff kept roads slick despite obviously being plowed.

The hamlet's snow total leaned toward the high end of the 3-5 inches predicted for Long Island.
