Elementary school students in Long Beach got to wear their pajamas to school last month and help out the less fortunate at the same time.

Students at Lido and East schools participated in the Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive, which collected nearly 150 pairs of pajamas for distribution in Nassau County. For every pair of pajamas collected, Scholastic Book Clubs pledged to donate one book to send along with the pajamas.

The entire student body at East Elementary School sat in their pajamas while watching a film about children who must sleep in their clothes every night because they have no pajamas. The result was more than 100 donations of pajamas.

At Lido Elementary School, kindergarten students held a pajama story time celebration. After enjoying a “bedtime” snack of hot chocolate and bagels, students snuggled up with their parents and other special persons to read their favorite bedtime stories.
