Healthy Planet, a Huntington-based organization that promotes sustainable living, hosted its annual Thanksgiving dinner Sunday night. More than 100 people celebrated the holiday with the organization, their plates piled high with trimmings -- but not a turkey in sight.
The dinner was strictly vegan. Members of Healthy Planet each brought a plant-based dish to share, which included things like tofu and bean dishes, pumpkin risotto and mashed squash, and much more.
Executive Director Bob DiBenedetto congratulated the participants on be willing to stray from the norm.
"Were taking actions that make a difference in the world, even if it's not what we've always done," he said.
After dinner, Healthy Planet hosted guest speaker Howard Lyman, a cattle rancher turned vegan best known for his appearance on the "Oprah Winfrey Show," infamous interview that prompted Winfrey to say she would never eat a burger again.
