The Southampton Writer’s Conference, an annual event with celebrity-packed lectures, is under way at Stony Brook University’s Southampton Campus.
Run by the university’s master of fine arts program, the conference brings together high-caliber writers for days of workshops, lectures, readings and discussions, according to the conference’s website.
Some of the authors on the schedule include Alan Alda, Billy Collins, Meg Wolitzer, Marsha Norman, Kaylie Jones and Jules Feiffer.
Workshops on children’s literature, screenwriting and playwriting began Wednesday. From July 13 to 24, the conference will include sessions on poetry, novels and memoirs, and nonfiction, among other genres.
Cost of the workshops varies. Applications are available on the website, stonybrook.edu/writers.
Several public events are also scheduled, at a cost of $10, at the campus’ Avram Theater. Those include an interview Saturday with screenwriter-filmmaker Chris Weitz, who directed “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” and co-directed “American Pie.”
