A portion of South Bayview Avenue last repaved in the 1970s will be repaired under a $150,000 state grant secured by state Sen. Charles Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick), according to village officials and Fuschillo’s office.

Amityville Mayor Peter Imbert said the repairs would start at King Place and move south to the beach. Until the project is put out to bid, he said, he could not say whether the grant would cover the total cost of repairs.

That portion of South Bayview Avenue receives heavy traffic from people using the nearby boat ramp, ballfields and the beach.

Imbert said the work would take about three weeks and could be completed by summer.

The grant was a pleasant surprise, he added. “Money’s hard to come by these days .?.?. The days of big money grants are over.”

In a release, Fuschillo said, “Providing this funding will enable the Village to repair this important roadway and improve the quality of life for its residents.”
