The 35-acre campus at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson will become a gallery for more than 35 works of art this weekend and throughout the summer.
The 31st Annual Outdoor Sculpture Show will kick off Friday and be on display for the public to browse on the hospital grounds through Aug. 31. The show features nearly all local artists, three of whom work at the hospital, said Stuart Vincent, the hospital's director of public relations.
The show will include sculptures in clay, colored glass, bronze, iron, wood, steel and copper. Smaller works will be displayed inside the hospital.
The hospital’s summer tradition is a way to bring cheer to its patients and visitors, as well as support local artists, Vincent said.
“It’s our way of giving back,” he said.
