Officials gathered Tuesday in freezing weather at Tanger Outlets at The Arches in Deer Park to recognize prestigious energy efficiency accolades recently handed out to the retail center.

Babylon Town Supervisor Steve Bellone, joined by a group of local dignitaries, presented representatives from Blumenfeld Development Group, developer and management of the The Arches, with the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Silver Core and Shell Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, the first retail center in the state to receive that award.

Additionally, Bellone noted that The Arches also received a Silver design award and the Gold Sustainability Award from the International Conference of Shopping Centers.

In turn, Bellone was presented with an evergreen tree by Blumenfeld Group principal David Blumenfeld in recognition of the town’s own environmental efforts.

Bellone said he’ll call it the town’s “Sustainability Tree” and plant it on the grounds of Town Hall.
