Visitors to Babylon Village can now enjoy a cup of coffee, a bite to eat, or a stroll through Argyle Park without missing a beat on what's happening on the Web.
That's because the Village of Babylon now offers free Wi-Fi access from Main Street east to Route 231, and from the intersection of Main Street and Deer Park Avenue north to the Long Island Rail Road overpass.
Babylon is the first village in Suffolk County to offer the service, said Mayor Ralph Scordino.
“It’s a little bit of free service we can give to the people using our parks, recreation and storefronts,” he said.
He said the project was funded by a roughly $30,000 grant from Suffolk County for downtown revitalization.
Scordino said he believes the free access will be an asset to the village because when patrons sign on, they will see the village’s homepage, which will have announcements from the Chamber of Commerce and feature local advertising.
“It will also be a way to keep people better informed,” he said.
