Arthur John Golder, the village justice for Baxter Estates, will not seek re-election next month, village officials said.
Elizabeth Kase, who was appointed acting justice in June, said she plans to run for the seat. The deadline to file a petition to run for the office is Feb. 14.
Kase, a Garden City defense attorney, ran unsuccessfully for Nassau County Court judge in November.
The village created its justice court in 2003 for local traffic, criminal, and building and zoning matters. Village enforcement personnel issue appearance tickets, and the court is in session once a month.
The term for justice is four years. The position of acting justice, with a term of one year, is appointed by the mayor and approved by the board of trustees.
Kase, whose husband is former State Sen. Craig Johnson, said Golder has “served with distinction. He brought real organization and clarity to the position.”
The village election will be held March 20 at Village Hall (315 Main St.). Two trustee positions also will be on the ballot.
