Beaches at risk for rip currents

Some Long Island beaches are at a high risk of rip currents Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Waves are expected to be 2- to 3-feet high along Atlantic-facing beaches, and swimmers are urged to check with lifeguards before entering these waters. Beachgoers should not swim in unsupervised areas.

The Weather Service also announced that this weekend may be the hottest in July in more than 25 years.
