Actor Billy Crystal and his wife, Janice, have donated funding for playground equipment for the Magnolia Childcare Center in Long Beach.
The City Council is to vote Wednesday on spending $11,817 for three pieces of playground equipment to be installed in the North Park neighborhood facility at Magnolia Boulevard and Pine Street. Funds were provided by a "very generous donation" from Crystal, city officials said.
The playground will be installed by Mount Vernon-based Raymond Michael Ltd., using money deposited in the Long Beach Relief Fund, according to a city report.
Council to vote on part of bulkhead deal The Long Beach City Council is to vote tomorrow on part of an agreement to rebuild the north shore bulkhead.
The agreement would start geotechnical test boring as part of the North Shoreline Protection Project along Reynolds Channel.
Testing would tell city officials about what subsurface materials are available to install additional bulkheads along the north shore, near the recreation center.
City Council members voted in August to award the design phase of the project. It is entirely funded through the Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency's Hazard Mitigation grant.
