Blighted Blue Point home demolished

Brookhaven Town workers Thursday demolished a Blue Point home that officials described as a blighted property that posed a danger to the neighborhood.

The house had been deemed unsafe by the town and condemned, said town officials, who released a statement terming the demolition an “emergency” decision.

The Buffin Lane home was demolished shortly after a 9 a.m. news conference that included Supervisor Mark Lesko and Councilman Tim Mazzei. Debris from the demolition was taken to the town’s landfill, officials said. Town spokesman Jack Krieger issued a statement after the demolition that said the removal of the house is part of “an ongoing effort to eradicate blight.”

The demolition was coordinated with the town’s Quality of Life Task Force.
