Brookhaven civic group gets new president

The Affiliated Brookhaven Civic Organization, an umbrella group that represents 30 community groups in central Suffolk County, has elected Deborah Felber as its new president.

Felber, the president of the Selden Civic Association, was elected on March 19 and will be installed April 19, ABCO members said. She was first vice president of the organization.

Former president MaryAnn Johnston, who had held the position since 2007 and reached the end of her term limit, will remain on the board, ABCO said in a statement.

Johnston, a fixture at Brookhaven Town Board meetings, said she will stay active in monitoring local government.

“I think that residents need to be involved in government, whether they are involved in a group or not,” Johnston said, adding that she was “absolutely pleased” with Felber’s election.

Felber was unopposed. John Sicignano, of Mastic, who also ran unopposed, was elected first vice president of ABCO.
