Brookhaven Town’s eco-calendar is filling up. The 5th Annual Great Brookhaven Cleanup is scheduled for April 21, and the Great Brookhaven Plant-in will take place June 9.
The cleanup and planting events, part of the national campaign Great American Cleanup, drew more than 5,000 residents last year, town officials said.
“The Great Brookhaven Cleanup and Plant-in gives residents the opportunity to join with their neighbors and make a difference in their community,” Supervisor Mark Lesko said in a news release. “Participants show how much they care about the environment and their dedication to making Brookhaven a cleaner and more beautiful place to live.”
Individuals and groups interested in participating in the cleanup and the planting events can register at brookhaven.org.
“Each year we have high expectations for both events and we surpass our goals every time. I thank all the residents who participate and understand that keeping Brookhaven clean is everyone’s responsibility,” said Councilman Tim Mazzei, Brookhaven’s board liaison to the Division of Waste Management.
Free gloves, T-shirts and trash bags will be provided for the cleanup, and plants will be given to registrants for the plant-in.
Every cleanup and plant-in participant will receive 150 Recyclebank
