Brookhaven honors senior citizens

As part of a month-long celebration of Brookhaven’s senior citizens, town officials recently honored the presidents of several local senior clubs.

The ceremony at the Majestic Gardens catering hall in Rocky Point highlighted the work of clubs in Ridge, Centereach, Farmingville, Port Jefferson, Middle Island and Lake Ronkonkoma, and the Hagerman and Albert Tinnie senior clubs.

The town celebrates all 39 of its senior clubs each Friday in May.

“Our senior clubs perform an important role in the community and serve as a valuable support system for so many of our residents,” Supervisor Mark Lesko said in a news release. “I commend the honorees and thank them for their hard work and dedication to helping senior citizens throughout the Town of Brookhaven.”

“I believe we are all deeply indebted to all of our seniors who are each one part of the greatest generation that sacrificed and endured so much, from the Great Depression through World War II and Korea,” said Councilman Steve Fiore-Rosenfeld.

“They contribute so much of their time and talent to improve the quality of life for our senior citizens, and I thank them for their efforts,” Councilman Tim Mazzei said of the club presidents.
