A Brookville family has altered plans for construction that would have required a variance from the Village Board of Zoning Appeals.
Scott and Amy Jaffee will reduce the size of a planned addition to their home on Meadowbrook Lane, according to village officials and a letter their attorney sent to the board.
The Jaffees “have decided to amend their current application for a building permit, and relevant plans, in order to fit within the provisions of the village code without the need for any variances,” the letter said.
The family’s attorney, Dan Baker, did not respond to repeated requests for comment.
Last year, two workers were injured at the Jaffee home when the roof of an underground basketball and racquetball court collapsed while it was being built.
Village Clerk-Treasurer Winnie Citarella said that the Jaffees’ new plans had included an above-ground basketball court, but the size of the proposed structure would have required clearance from the zoning board.
Now, Citarella said, “They’re going to adjust the size so they won’t need [a] variance.”
