Central Islip Library's $2.99M budget passes

Voters approved the Central Islip Library’s $2.99 million budget for 2011-12 on Wednesday.

The budget is up 2.25 percent from last year's. The average homeowner will see an increase in the library tax of $10.59.

The library’s director, Paul Facchiano, said he was proud of the budget’s passage and the steps library officials have taken to keep taxes low while increasing public services.

He said the library reduced personnel costs by about $24,000 by cutting part-time hours and not filling vacancies.

He added that the new budget includes increases in books, DVDs and programs for the public.
