Two civic associations representing North and Central Merrick and North Bellmore will host a joint meeting Tuesday to talk about an application by the local Citgo gas station to expand.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in the North Merrick Library, 1691 Meadowbrook Rd., in North Merrick.

Kevin J. O’Brien, an attorney for 1206 Bellmore Avenue Realty Corp., on the south side of Jerusalem between Bellmore and Park avenues in North Bellmore, will speak about Citgo’s proposed renovations. The corporation is seeking a permit to convert an automobile repair shop into a convenience store and erect a canopy over three gas pumps. It is also looking to operate 24 hours a day.

The special meeting will allow residents to discuss their concerns about such topics as the store’s expanded hours, noise, traffic and alleged criminal activity at the site.

Several residents at a Hempstead Town board meeting in July asked the panel to reject the application. The town board originally held a public hearing about the petition on June 19.
